East Millstone Methodist Episcopal Church
Franklin Township, Somerset County

I initially declined to photograph this Greek Revival style church
in East Millstone because of the aluminum siding. I relented in part
because
the church is nicely proportioned. It was built in 1855, a year after
the congregation was organized. The Franklin Township Historic Preservation
Commission says that a new front of 16 feet and the belfry were added
a few years later, and that extensive repairs were made, inside and
out, about 50 years ago. There is confirmation of that in the foundation,
for the original cornerstone with the 1855 date is now 16 back from
the front corner of the building.
