Calvary Episcopal Church of Flemington
Flemington, Hunterdon County

The church was founded in 1841 and built in 1881. Snell says nothing
is known of when the first Episcopal services were held in Flemington;
a chapel was built, but he is vague as to when and where. There is a
record of a service in 1838 and in 1842, but the attendence was exceedingly
small; Sometime thereafter the chapel was sold in order to retire
the mortgage.
The steeply pitched decorative slate roof, false buttresses and wooden
framwork entrance is characteristic of Episcopal churches built during
this period.
