Manahawkin Methodist Church
Manahawkin, Ocean County
Manahawkin was one of the earliest settled areas of Ocean County,
but this Methodist church was not organized until 1806, long after
a congregation had been formed in West Creek. This fine Gothic building
was put up in the 1870s, I believe. It has unusually buttresses
that
slope from the group to the cornice, and a most unusual steeple/cupola.
The interior walls and ceiling still have the original molded tin,
and all has been nicely maintained.
