Newport
Baptist Church
Newport,
Cumberland County
The baptist congregation in Newport was organized in 1852 and this
interesting buuilding was erected sometime later, although there is
a plaque saying there was a rebuilding in 1902. Until I learn otherwise,
I am going to pretend that much of the church dates to the nineteenth
century, as I'd hate to dismiss such an interesting building from this
website on a technicality. The tower is certainly unusual, but the
other elements are all commonly found in Jersey churches.
