Pennington
First Methodist Episcopal Church
Pennington, Mercer County

The
Methodist church in Pennington was organized by the 1770s, which makes
it a very early congregation in the state. There is a suggestion that
the 1770s date is not entirely accurate—that the 1820s is more
likely. I have seen no documentation on the matter that is persuasive
either way. The previous church, erected in 1824, still exists a little
to the south of this building which was put up in 1874.
