Mt. Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church
Pennington, Mercer County

Founded in 1847 and built in 1876, the building appears to be recently
restored. There are relatively few of the early AME churches that
look
like churches anymore; most began as simple vernacular buildings and
were enlarged piecemeal. There are enough architectural details here
to signify that it is, indeed, a house of worship.
