   Photographic Inventory

Mt. Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church
Pennington, Mercer County

Founded in 1847 and built in 1876, the building appears to be recently restored. There are relatively few of the early AME churches that look like churches anymore; most began as simple vernacular buildings and were enlarged piecemeal. There are enough architectural details here to signify that it is, indeed, a house of worship.
