Church of the Advent
Trenton, Mercer County

There were no identifying signs on this interesting red brick building
on South Broad Street at Malone, but I subsequently learned from Timothy
Griscom, an expert on the Methodist Episcopal churches of the region,
that it was built as a German Lutheran church in 1889-90. That congregation
organized a year earlier and met in the Chambersburg Borough Hall until
their building was complete.
The building was being painted when I
shot this in October 2001. Although the front and sides are fairly conventional,
the design of the tower is fresh.
