early churches of New Jersey
About
this site
We've created a database and photographic inventory on more than half
the 18th & 19th century churches in the state and add to it each month.
We welcome and solicit all contributions and suggestions from our visitors.
These
are the churches that have been recently photographed and are included
on the photographic inventory. [partial list--not complete, but almost;
I expect there are less than 60 pre-1900 churches in total.]
Some explanation
is needed. Churches in boldface are either listed on the
National Register or are otherwise of special interest. If the name
of the church is in brackets [ ] I am in doubt as to the founding congregation. The
Sect is the original religious denomination when the church was built.
Fields left blank are those for which I have no solid information.
